We recommend authors read our EDITORIAL POLICY and the CODE OF ETHICS followed by the journal, before submission.
OBJN follows the “Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals” (Vancouver Style).

Authorship
- Authors are limited to a maximum of six (6), except in multicenter studies, where the inclusion of more authors may be evaluated by the Editor-in-Chief upon justification in the Cover Letter.
- The Title Page must include: Full name, Email, ORCID, Institution/affiliation, City, State, Country.
- The corresponding author's name and email should be indicated on the Title Page.

Institutional Affiliation
- On the Title Page, provide the full institution name for each author, in the institution's original language, detailing up to three levels, followed by the city, state, and country.
- If an author has more than one institutional affiliation, only the one where the research was developed should be indicated.
- In situations of cooperation between institutions, both may be cited, but the primary one should be listed first.

Additional Information
- Acknowledgments, funding, conflicts of interest, preprint deposit, thesis/dissertation extraction, and the use/support of artificial intelligence must be provided on the Title Page, as indicated.
- Acknowledgments should include individuals and/or institutions that contributed to the study's completion but did not meet the authorship criteria. Do not acknowledge financial support for the research.
- Funding details must be provided as indicated on the Title Page, including the full name of the funding institution in its original language, and the funding process number.
- In case of a conflict of interest, it must be explicitly declared, indicating any personal, commercial, academic, or financial relationship that may have influenced the study.

Manuscript preparation

Manuscripts can be submitted in English, Portuguese, and Spanish for the sections described in ACCEPTED MANUSCRIPT TYPES.
-
The manuscript and the Title page must be in the journal's Template, in Word format doc or docx.
-
The text must be original and not have been submitted, in parallel, to any other publication.
-
The text must present originality in its composition, with behaviors identified as plagiarism and self-plagiarism being rejected.
-
All mandatory documents, listed in the general introductions, were attached at the time of submission.
-
Citations and references must follow the Vancouver norms.
-
At least 80% of the references must be from the last five (5) years, except for historical articles, review articles, or exceptionally authorized ones.
-
Review articles must update the search until the submission date.

Manuscript structure

Must follow the structure of the journal's Template, indicating: title, abstract, keywords (in the submission language), introduction, method, results, discussion, conclusion, and references (except editorial and letter to the editor).

DO NOT number the article pages.

Clinical trials, systematic and scoping reviews must present the registration number at the end of the abstract and in the method section. The registration databases accepted by OBJN can be found under the ACCEPTED MANUSCRIPT TYPES tab.

Title
- In the submission's language, up to 15 words and no abbreviations.
- Capitalize only the first word of the title and proper nouns.
- Present the Research Design (Method) used, preferably at the end, preceded by a colon.

Abstract
- In the submission's language, up to 200 words, single-spaced.
- It must be structured into: objective, method, results, and conclusion.
- Do not use abbreviations or citations.

Citations

OBJN adopts the Vancouver system for citing references.
-
Reference citations must respect the order of appearance in the text, and must be numbered consecutively, in Arabic numerals, superscript, and in parentheses.
-
When citations are sequential, indicate the first and last number, separated by a hyphen. Ex.: (1-3).
-
When they are interspersed, separate each one with a comma. Ex.: (2-3,5).
-
Direct citations must be described in quotation marks, not in italics, respecting the sequence of the text.

Interview/subject's speech/testimony

Must be in a separate paragraph, distinct from the normal text.

In italics, without quotation marks, with single spacing and a 2 cm indent from the left margin.

The identification of the speech must be coded and presented at the end of each speech/interview/testimony, in parentheses and not in italics.

Must be inserted in the text as soon as they are cited.

Tables and charts must be editable (Microsoft Word).

They should not exceed the file margins (2.5 cm on all sides).

Must contain indication of authorship source.
Tables
- Charts must be identified as tables.

The title must be presented above the table.

A period should not be placed after the title.

Must be open on the left and right sides.

Should not contain internal lines.
Figures
-
Graphs, drawings, flowcharts, schemes, diagrams, and photos must be identified as figures.

Must have a title below them. When there is an authorship source, the title goes below the source.

Must have a minimum resolution of 900 DPI (Dots Per Inch), be editable whenever possible, and have a maximum size of 16x10 cm.

Photos with identifiable people must have image usage authorization submitted along with the manuscript.

For national and Latin American journals, use the abbreviated title registered in the Scientific Health Sciences Journals Portal of the Virtual Health Library (VHL) or in Latindex.

In the absence of an abbreviation, use the full name of the journal.

If reference managers have been used, it is necessary to remove the link with the software before the manuscript is submitted.

The number of references is unlimited.

Submission Preparation Checklist
COMPLIANCE
1. The manuscript has been prepared in accordance with the Online Brazilian Journal of Nursing (OBJN) Author Guidelines.

All mandatory documents have been attached: Manuscript in the Template, Title Page, the methodological reporting guideline from the Equator Network (see Types of Manuscripts Accepted), and the Research Ethics Committee approval letter (required only for studies involving human beings or animals).

3. The manuscript is original, unpublished, and is not under simultaneous evaluation by another journal.
AUTHORSHIP
4. All listed authors meet the authorship criteria of the CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy), and their contributions are declared on the Title Page.
5. Authors are limited to a maximum of six (6), except in multicenter studies, where the inclusion of additional authors may be evaluated by the Editor-in-Chief.
6. All authors have approved the submitted version and agree with this submission.

Original Articles
These are quantitative (clinical or non-clinical), qualitative, or mixed-methods studies. All study modalities will equally have space for publication in OBJN. All original research manuscripts must include an introduction with a clear and concise description of the knowledge gap and a clear and concise objective, as well as: theoretical framework or philosophical orientation, typology (design, method, or study design), participants, data collection and analysis processes and procedures, ethical considerations, legitimacy and credibility issues and approaches, findings, and implications of those findings. Clinical trials must be registered on recognized platforms, national (like ReBEC) or international (like ClinicalTrials.gov) platforms before data collection begins.
Review Articles
Review studies with high methodological rigor will be accepted in the modalities of systematic reviews, meta-analyses, meta-syntheses, and scoping reviews. These must be guided by PRISMA (Systematic Literature Reviews and Meta-Analyses) or PRISMA ScR (Scoping Review) and have their protocols registered in PROSPERO, OSF or equivalent, available on open access websites. Integrative reviews are accepted on an exceptional basis, limited to two manuscripts per issue.
Implementation, Innovation, Prospecting and/or Technological Development
These are long articles presenting the description of implementation studies, research applied to professional practice, and/or technological innovation development. They must follow the SQUIRE guide and mandatorily contain: background (state of the art or technique), problem (current diagnosis), proposed solution to the problem, technology differential, benefits, technology results, and market potential. This type of article is considered original.
Reflection Article
Academic text that allows authors to express their opinions, ideas, and thoughts on a topic related to Nursing or related fields. It must deeply explore and analyze relevant subjects grounded in concepts and/or theories, offering personal and critical insights. It must contain: abstract, introduction, development, conclusion, and references.
Experience Reports, Updates and/or Technological Innovation
Manuscript describing innovative experiences in the health area, highlighting the main results for the quality of care, education, and/or research. It must contain: abstract, introduction, method, results, discussion, and conclusion. In this modality, results may be presented together with the discussion.
Letter to the Editor
Involves the submission of comments, questions, and/or critiques regarding published articles. Maximum of one page.

The names and email addresses entered in this journal site will be used exclusively for the stated purposes of this journal and will not be made available for any other purpose or to any other party.
