Abstract
Objective: To understand perceived changes in women's knowledge, skills, and attitudes regarding the birth plan after participating in an educational intervention. Method: Qualitative study involving an educational intervention, conducted with women in a municipality in the Western Border region of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, between July 2023 and April 2024. The educational intervention addressed the birth plan. Data were collected through pre- and post-intervention semi-structured interviews and a field diary. The data were subjected to thematic content analysis. Results: Before the intervention, participants showed limited knowledge of the birth plan and obstetric care routines. After the intervention, increased knowledge, development of skills related to critical reflection and decision-making, and attitudes more favorable to women's agency and autonomy during childbirth were observed. Nevertheless, none of the participants used the birth plan during hospitalization. Conclusion: The findings show that, even with the development of a Birth Plan and strengthened knowledge among pregnant women, it was not possible to change the hospital obstetric care context.
