Abstract
Objective: to analyze the causes and define the clinical outcomes of hospitalization of AIDS patients admitted to an adult ICU. Method: Cross-sectional, descriptive, retrospective study with a quantitative approach carried out in a teaching hospital in Mato Grosso do Sul. The sample included 55 patients. The collection period was from February to June 2019. Results: Acute respiratory failure was the major cause of admission to the ICU and infection was the most recurrent complication; of the inmates, 33 were transferred to the infirmary. Conclusion: There is a need to improve men's health policies to increase health surveillance for those affected by AIDS.
