Resumen
Objetivo: Describir los elementos de una teoría de rango medio del proceso de adaptación en personas con lesión medular traumática, basada en el Modelo de Adaptación de Roy. Método: Investigación teórica, de carácter explicativo y prescriptivo, por medio del General Method of Theory Building in Applied Disciplines y estrategias de teorización utilizando componentes terminológicos para teorías que producen situaciones. Resultados: Se aplica a personas mayores de 18 años, en proceso de adaptación a una lesión medular, en un período de hasta tres años después del traumatismo. Definió conceptos e interrelaciones. Presentó 10 afirmaciones relacionales, 9 proposiciones teóricas y tecnologías orientadoras del proceso de enfermería. Conclusión: El proceso adaptativo de una persona a la lesión medular traumática se manifiesta a través de respuestas de afrontamiento que se dan en el ámbito de las respuestas humanas fisiológicas, el autoconcepto, los cambios de roles y la interdependencia, moduladas por el sentido de la vida, las experiencias previas y la actitud interna ante los desafíos, produciendo respuestas efectivas o comprometidas.
