The present study aims to evaluate
the trainee program as model of people management from the nursing perspective
and to discuss the impact of the Trainee Program as a strategy for the
professional initiation of a newly graduated nurse in the job market. We defend
the thesis that the Trainee Program is a model of people management as well as
an effective means to place the nurse in the work market. The theoretical
support was brought about by Peter Senge as the
strengthening of intellectual capital while establishing the five necessary
subjects of learning capabilities such as personal control, mental models,
shared view, team learning, and systemic thinking. The design of the research
was prospective, nearly experimental, and was carried out from July 2003 to May
2006. Data collection was held in two parts – pre and post trainee program.
In data analysis the signed-rank tests were used and there was no significant
evidence in the scores in theoretical tests in the pre and post trainee
program. In the practical tests and in the practical evaluations, significant
differences were shown and indicated a better result in the post trainee
program. The psychometric testes showed that the average of the Motivational
Test before the program was bigger than it was at the end, revealing a shift in
necessities during the program, from self-realization going on to physiologic,
security and association to recognition. We carried out a last questionnaire
about job satisfaction, which made clear that those professionals were not only
pleased to enter the job market but also to profit from that time to develop
their professional activities. This program presents a proposal for the
qualification of recently graduated nurses while it seeks to create space for
knowledge sharing and formation of an institutional policy for their insertion
in the work market.
