ABSTRACT
It is a dissertation project of the Master of Science at the University Federal Fluminense, whose goals are: identify the consumption of alcohol among undergraduate nursing students of the University Federal Fluminense and describe the characteristics of alcohol consumption: risk of abuse or dependence and discuss the factors that lead students to consume alcoholic beverages. Quantitative and qualitative study, questionnaire proposed by the World Health Organization (WHO), the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT) was used to measure and identify the characteristics of alcohol consumption. Through the direction of the quantitative results, issues will be deepened through the formation of a focus group with a sub-population purposely chosen. For quantitative analysis is being used SPSS and qualitative data is intended to use thematic analysis.

Problem Situation and its Significance: The contemporaneity relationship that developed between the youth, leisure and alcohol abuse have shown concern subject of recent researches, has been considered a major issue of Public Health both in Brazil as worldwide. It became an issue that brings health impacts of the individual, family and society, because they have contributed to the maintenance of several social, economic and health. This period of transition to university have become students exposed to alcohol and other drugs, making them vulnerable. Excessive consumption of alcohol has been a recurring pattern among the universities. The period in which they are in college, cultural activities, leisure, parties will be bound, ballads and always in the presence of alcohol. And yet, the removal of the family, new friendships, the acquisition of independence, the search for socialization, are part of changes that may put the student at greater risk (1). Alcohol consumption among young people is associated to negative consequences for both their physical as mental. Characterized by aspects of risk behavior, violence, unprotected sex, sexually transmitted infections, automobile accidents, damage to public property, damage to structure cognitive-behavioral skills and a drop in academic performance (2.3).
Questions: The undergraduate students of the Nursing Course of Federal Fluminense University have consumed alcohol? What types of drinks consumed over? How to characterize the consumption of alcohol?
Objectives: To identify the consumption of alcohol among undergraduate nursing students of the Federal Fluminense University; To describe the characteristics of alcohol consumption: risk of abuse or dependence and discuss the factors that lead universities to consume alcoholic beverages.
Methodology: This is a quantitative and qualitative study, proposed for a better understanding about alcohol use among university students of undergraduate program in nursing. As data collection will be used in the questionnaire proposed by the World Health Organization (WHO), called Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT) used to measure and identify the characteristics of alcohol consumption. On the other hand, the student profile, their habits, values, family relationships, sports, leisure and attitudes about alcohol consumption among these youths will be explored through a focus group from a crop of students who present consumption pattern indicated by the AUDIT. Approved by the Ethics Committee in Research of Federal Fluminense University, Protocol 252/10, CAAE: 0204.0.258.000-10. The study population will include students from undergraduate nursing students of the Federal Fluminense University. Data collection began, in the period from May 2011, with 67 questionnaires completed by nursing students from the sixth and seventh period, which are being analyzed by SPSS 13. The ethical aspects, was obeyed Ordinance No. 196/96 from MS that regulates the criteria for research involving humans.
